Thats what you want to block off.Cut a piece of tin to cover the opening.Little silicone to hold it in place.Goes against the head before the gasket. The intake bolts(nuts) are tightened in a criss-cross pattern starting in the middle  working out.I will dig out my shop manual and post the torque if someone else doesnt do it first. We block off the heat passage to stop paint from being burnt off but also to keep a little more heat away from carb.Dont need it for fair weather driving.Dont know which intake you are using but a phenolic spacer if available for yours also helps keep carb cooler by providing a thermal break between manifold and carb base.

ok i did a search and find posts about blocking off choke passages with sheet metal so it doesnt burn the paint off the intake ,is this where im putting the sheet metal? i dont want to mess anything up... and then im also needing the torque specs and tightening sequence for installing the intake ,and should i be using a anti-seize or thread-loc on the threads ?thanks..tim
