Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Since it's hot outside, I thought I'd drag this one up again. I put heat in the floor to heat my garage and ran some outside to melt snow. It's pretty nice.

Glad you were able to get the old one out.When installing the new one it helps if you can "compress"the seal against the crank.Gives a little more space to turn it into position.You dfo have to watch thsat the back of the seal doesnt get scraped against the block damaging it. 

  

Yes.  There were some installed by Ford.  Not very common though.

Mark you are right, the sneaky Pete was next to useless, wouldn't even start. Better with a screw in it and pull as you said while turning. It breaks bits off you have to go at it a few times. I didnt like the way the jaw grips the seal so simply put the seal in with a small amount of grease round it and feed it in while turning the crank and the last bit just tap around into postion. Tomorrow I'll finish putting the cap on etc ..see how it goes in a few days..

I swear if I ever build another shop it will have in floor heating! Not terribly costly in new construction and warm floors. How great is that?

Also, one of my y's had allen head bolts in the rear seal retainer. Did Ford do this?  Chuck

Thanks Mark, I have the corkscrew thingy that comes with the sneaky Pete so fingers crossed it works.. I hope it is the original seal . eerr.. what if its not?

Not easy liying on your back on a cold concrete floor with minimal light doing this kind of thing .. ahh what a joy.. dont we love these cars !

Any last minute tips when using the sneaky Pete guys ....?

When you are trying to remove the original rope seal this might help.If you screw a sheetmetal screw into the end(of the seal) which is the same as engine rotation and have someone rotate engine as you pull with a pair of vise grips it should make it easier to remove it.They are in there pretty good if its original.

  

3/8, 12 point is what I'm remembering.

Guys just need to confirm what type and size socket I need for the bolts at the main seal retainer. Rick said he thinks it a 12 point AF 3/8" in a 3/8" drive. Gotta check I'll have to order one...
