I’ll say put it on and give it a try.
To add to what Mike has already posted, the List 9834 carb is also listed as a pre-emissions carb which should make it a suitable bolt-on on your engine. Vacuum secondary carbs are very flexible on a large range of engines and because of the vacuum secondary feature, it’s difficult to over carburate with the stock secondary springs in place. There are a number of 750cfm vacuum secondary carbs on small cubic inch engines that drive around just fine while providing superior upper rpm performance. I even had a 750 Holley on my 272 that ran surprisingly well. But I’ll add that smaller carbs do tend to be torquier off of idle than their larger counterparts so this is something else that must be kept in mind. If you’re not going to be running in the upper rpms very often, then the larger carbs are often overkill.
I proved a point awhile back putting a Holley Dominator (1050 cfm) double pumper carb on a small engine and it idled and ran just fine under normal dyno loading. Only if all four barrels were all opened up under a full load at 2300 rpms did the engine falter and gasp a bit but that was going to an extreme. But it was demonstrated that the larger carbs will run just fine as long as the fuel metering characteristics are maintained.
