hi there

just a couple of questions

1.  what are the 2 threaded holes just above the pan rails on the passenger side for? round about where the main bearing webs are

2.i have one of mr Mummerts add on pulleys. now the heavy duty crank washer hits the 2 mounting bolts. is the procedure to grind a couple of notches?   

must go now NZ / France are about to kick off

The two holes are for clips to hold transmission cooling lines to rad. Have not seen one of Mummerts dampers so I'll say that grinding a notch would not be a problem, but I would fill better if you asked John.

i don't think i'd ever got the transmission clips and not knowing i've routed my lines via two flexy hoses to the chassis.

too late on notching the big washer i've done it . looks ok took quite some time and dulled a couple of carbide burrs it's real hard

Great question, I've never given those holes much thought but never new what they were for either. I dont think I've ever seen a Y with the cooling line clips installed. Was the idea early on and done away with? I've torn appart a lot of Y's without seeing them.  Chuck

My '55 292 has the same threaded holes, and I believe that the water cooled transmission didn't come out until mid '56, at least on t-birds. Anyone disagree?

Interesting point.  Perhaps they were some type of fixturing holes for block machining at the factory, and just happened to get used for the transmission line clips.

Those are used to mount block to engine stand. Those stands are neat. I think I have a vague memory of the side mounts from way back but had completely forgotten them. The bottom one pictured with the two curved pipes looks like the setup we used for the air cooled Volkswagens. Cool stuff on this site! Chuck

Stu, Ford deleted the washer when the add-on pulleys were installed.

I've seen the threaded holes in the block used to attach the ground strap from the block to the frame. Don't know if that was the original purpose.
