There is a freeze plug in the head in the area of your leak.  It is behind the distributor cap.  It could be your coolant leak.

I just checked the oil and I did not see any droplets on the dipstick. I had the oil changed a few weeks ago at the ford dealership and they did not say anything. I change the oil every 2000 miles and the oil in the transfer case and axels once a year. I thinking it will do it some good for as old as it is and with the modern oils now days. I use 10w 30 for the motor and 80-90w for the drive train. Ford said that would be fine to use. The motor runs good. on cold day days it does not want to stay running until it warms up, i'm thinking its a choke problems. The 2 heater hoses run by the leak on the back side of the head but I dont see no problems with the hoses or where they go into the heater. And I don't pass a gas station to much. Lol..

You don't say how the truck is running.. but it sounds like you could have a bad head gasket, leaking coolant into the engine. The leak at the rear, is that near heater hoses by chance? And you need to pull the rocker covers and first check for oil to the rockers. High mileage engines sometimes lose the oiling to the rockers, particularly on the passengers side. If so it could be caused by sludge buildup or the cam bearing that supplies oil up top, is worn so bad it's impeding supply. Check & get back to us..

Could very well be a bad head gasket, but there are worse things it could be. Can you see water droplets on the oil dip stick? The loud tapping under the valve covers could also be several things. I would pull the valve covers and take a look while the engine is idling. They may need adjustment or they may not be getting enough oil to the rockers.

Sounds like the truck has been good to you for alot of years, she just needs you to give her some TLC now.

I have just found this site and am new here. I am not a motor head I have a 1964 F-250 4x4 with a 292 that has 175,000 original miles that needs help. i have a few questions to ask.

1. I noticed a water leak on the back passenger side of the head'

2. i pulled the spark plug on the front driverside and there was a white milky like fluid on the spark plug itself. i shined a light in the hole and could not see nothing.

3. I hear a lot of tapping noise from the rocker arms. is this something that i can fix myself ?

I have been driving this truck for ten years now with no major problems until now, just general maintence. i use this truck for hunting, pulling my boat and taking my wife and son to garage sales. belive it or not, this truck can out pull my father-in-laws 02 duramax pulling a 5th wheel/boat combo in the hills of  western South Dakota. My max speed is 60 mph on the interstate with very high RPM'S. My grandfather bought this truck new and I'm now the second owner.
