Just picked up a 59 Edsel with a stuck 292 from sitting 40 years.
I've ripped it down and have ordered all my parts for a rebuild, including a new oil pump.
I found a lot of sludge in the bottom of the oil pan and covering the oil pickup. How can I remove the oil pipe and pickup from the pan to clean it. I see the hex nut on the side of the pan but it doesn't seem to screw into anything (is the thin pan tapped?). I put a wrench on it but didn't want to force it and rip the pan. I also see the rubber seal on the inside of the pan around the pipe but don't know what is holding it in place. Does it just press into the pan opening?
Any help from those that know would be great - my first y block!
