Best of luck with your family "issues" - my pa is hitting 83 this year and I can't imagine what I'd do ..... Its a bridge that many must cross I know, just keep your hat pulled down tight.

The auto tranny in my old F-150 had the electric OD lockout switch to "add or subtract" fourth gear for towing. Don't know the trans model - but is that a method of using the three speed selector and utilizing the low position? Then maybe an auxillary cable to move the AOD trans selector lever a little further into "one more gear"? For everyday driving use the standard shift pattern - then add fourth as required on the freeway. Just another way of looking at it....

Hey, i'm back. been to Estes park for a week outdoor painting. Have returned to a ****storm of family issues with my 86 yr old father, recently diagonosed with Alzheimers.

Considering all this, I feel I have made some progress by process of elimination. Have ordered several shifter setups and parts (mostly to send back) to check my options and compare. For me it still points to using the Stock shifter AND I found a trick rod and lever setup designed for a early model Mustang/AOD conversion to allow usage of it's stock shifter. I think it may work great for my app. Still probably won't have the selection of LOW, manually, however. But I'm rationalizing that one. Bought a new driveshaft yoke and will basically have a complete new dshaft made with the use of my 1955 rear u-joint. Overall a few inches longer.

Not comfortable yet with the Lokar kickdown setup untill it's all installed and working. Have a 90 lincoln kickdown setup but it seems to short, unless I'm missing something.

I hope to crawl under the bird today and do some more measuring and fitting.

Thanks for the interest, I sure need the motivation.

Got a ride to Ohio, room, and everything but may have to cancel considering all.
