The starter on my 57 car sometimes wont stay engaged & spins out, especially on initial engagement. Recently, my battery was low & it spun out violently with a great crash. The low battery problem has been fixed as the charging system wiring was showing a lot of resistance. Any suggestions on a fix appreciated..

you can replace the old type starter with 1970 or newer ford starter , I most will work, the old ones, used to kick out all the time. bolts right in, makes life alot easier.

Paul, Get hold of Auto Electric, think they're under links in this site. Get one of his gear drives. Problem is over. Also easier for old arms to hold in place while threading bolts in, weighs about a third of the originals.

Mongo; Is the 1970 & later starter a FE 390 unit? I recall now something about that in Y-Block Magazine... Thanks to everyone that replied
