Y block Test Start Up, what to look for?

I know the standard stuff to look for before test firing a engine that has been sitting for a while. What Y-block specific stuff should I look for before test firing this engine? (Passenger car 292 or 312, 2-v hooked to a granny low truck 4 speed.

That is what I am currently working with. I pulled a 1954 up factory truck engine mount out of the junk yard hoping it would work, but it's too tall for the 52 ford pu. Working on fabbing front motor mounts now.

Examine the carburetor and insure it’s not gummed up from sitting with fuel in it.  Pull the valve covers and check that oil had been getting to the top end when the engine was last used.  Also look for missing pushrods and give the valve springs an eyeball.  Taking a hammer and tapping each rocker above the valve and insuring the valves are not stuck would be prudent.  Before actually trying to start the engine, spin it over with the spark plugs out and check the oil pressure and that oil is actually reaching the topend.

I would also recommend cleaning off the rear main seal and check for any oil weeping past while you are doing all Ted recommended. Could find a leak that gets really bad after running at pressure. Also check the PCV by soaking in carb cleaner. If it is stuck open it will mimic a really substantial vacuum leak and get you chasing your tail.
