Paul, As I remember, they were, he spent a lot of time cleaning up the welds and then had them ceramic coated after he bought them.Smile

Everybody,

Thanks for all the responses and help.  Another great help was doing a SEARCH on the Old Forums/Archives, I highly recommend this for any queries.

Frank Rice, Aren't those Red's Dual tube headers in the picture in your add in YBM issue 73, your candidate for Prettiest Y Block?

Thanks again,

Paul J. - '57 E Code

Chuck,  I had asked Ford Powertrain if their T-bird header would work.  They said some guy had tried it and couldn't get it to work.  I don't think I asked why.  Just by looking at them, the only reason I can come up with is that the outlets may be positioned so that they are too close to the crossmember that supports the bellhousing on a truck.  Or maybe they are too close to the solid axle.  However, a bare steel t-bird header may provide a good starting point for a nice truck header...  Hmmm.

Stan's headers has a tri-y offering for 54 - 59 pickups.  I called them and they said they will not work on 60 - 64 so their seems to be some difference in the trucks too.  Though, I thought a 60 was the same as a 59.  Red's doesn't indicate any particular date range for their truck headers.

The reason I asked is that Y-Block truck and T-Bird headers seem to be plentiful. Its the car headers that are difficult to find. Won't the T-Bird headers work on the truck too? Chuck

My 61 doesn't have side mounts.  I don't believe side mounts were used on the trucks at all.

Charlie, sorry for the confusion, I am running red's and am very happy with them. Had them ceramic(Jet-Hot) coated but the coating needs to be redone, and it's only been three years(not too happy with that part....) The only problem I have with Red's truck headers is that it takes away about 3-5 inches of my ground clearance.

John, Jerry's was the product I was thinking of.

My name is Greg and I am addicted to Y's.

Greg:

You are probably remembering Jerry Christenson's ad in Y Block Magazine.  He shows a Red's and his header side by side.  He even marked Red's with chalk showing the center and rear tubes joining the collector at 90 degrees.  The don't look as good as a factory manifold to my eyes.

Do the later trucks have side mounts? I thought trucks were an easy fit for the T-Bird type headers et all? Chuck
