2” should be more than adequate.  Just measure the distance that the rods are protruding below the pan rail to verify but I’ve never had any issues with the oil pan baffling with the crankshafts that had additional stroke.

I am rebuilding a 312 for my truck. I have a couple of oil pans from later truck 292's and one from a 272 with a windage tray in it. I think it was a 272 HD on a 2 ton. The pan from the 272 is the best but wondering about the windage tray interfering with the crank, rods, oil flow for the 312?. The tray sits down 2 inches from the oil pan rail. The other oil pans are all open with a divider at the deep end.
