I've done some searching, to no real avail. The problem I'm having is on m 57' Fairlane, when I'm cruising under acceleration it sounds like a lifter tapping or an exhaust leak (More like an exhaust leak). While parked and slow revving I hear nothing from the exhaust. But one thing I noticed is there is air coming through the back left (Driver) side of the intake manifold. There's a little hole roughly 1/4" coming out of the intake manifold and is pushing out air. I'm thinking this may be what it is. I highly doubt Ford made a hole in the side of there 4 barrel intake manifold just for kicks and giggles.
I'm trying to find a picture to show you guys what I'm talking about :-/
Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Apache, I am not an expert on these manifolds but it is the same one that I have. I believe that the hole you are talking about is in the exhaust crossover that runs below the carburetor base. On mine that hole is plugged with a screw. If left open like yours, I believe that there would be an exhaust leak. Some guys plug the exhaust crossover at the intake manifold so that the exhaust gasses don't heat up the intake manifold and burn the paint off of it. If it was me I would plug the hole. I plan to install the intake gaskets that plug the crossover.

Apache: That hole is part of the heated air supply for the automatic choke. There is also a hole on the other side of the manifold unless the automatic choke heat tube is still attached. There is a tube inside the manifold extending from hole to hole. What has happened is that the tube is rotted/rusted out, and exhaust is entering the tube. If the choke is still connected to the manifold on the right side, it is also getting exhaust gasses which will corrode the internal components of the choke, rendering it inoperable. If you are not using that choke arrangement, you can plug the hole where the exhaust is leaking out. If you are still using the original choke setup you will need to remove the manifold to replace the heat tube, of get another source of heat for the choke and plug the holes on both sides.
