312 in a 54 Ford Frame, z-bar is 55/56 unit bracket ( 54 Ford ) with female receptacle does not line up to mount to the engine or the bell housing. Is there another bracket and if so anyone have one I can purchase.
Thanks,
Richard

Richard

From the pictures it looks like you are trying to mount the bracket on the rear of the bellhousing, and the proper location is on the front, actually it mounts to the engine on the flange that the bellhousing bolts to Carl

Sorry guys I was not clear. The mounting is in front on the engine like you say but the female socket for the ball doesn't line up, its forward of the z bar ball by 3/4 of and inch. The only way it lines up is on the bell housing buk their is no attaching point. The mount/bracket is a 54 the z bar is a 56 which gives clearance for the exhaust manifold.

I am suspecting a mount from a 55/56 would work if anyone has one.

Richard,  posable difference in 54/ 55 frame`s, and location of clutch arm bracket.  The 54 Merc has got a straight Z bar, (with dual exhaust)  and goes between exhaust pipe and firewall.  If you could hold the Z bar up to where it should locate at the engine, then get a measurement from engine flange to center of ball stud maybe the  rite female bracket could be found...  BTW,  Very nice engine compartment.  The ECZ C is visable in one of your photos.    54 Merc 312

That bracket is for a T Bird, The "S" designates sport as in the T Birds a sport car.

I had the same problem.I got a different year bracket to accomidate the linkage on my T Bird.

The next time I go to my local old junkyard I will look at the 54s that are in it and see if they have that bracket.
