Does anyone have a solution for where to position an electric fuel pump on a 57 bird? I have one and installed it in the gas line under the drivers door on the frame. It won't pull any fuel from there. The gas line to back of the tank over the axle is a tough spot and as I read the instructions the pump has to be at the bottom level of the tank to prime.

I learned earlier in the week that the Carter rotary vane pumps can be mounted up to 25" above the top of the tank. That is according to the instructions with the pump. Maybe get a Carter?? I've been using one for the past couple years with no problems and they're made in the USA! I had two Holley Reds before the Carter and they both messed up in an unreasonable amount of time.

You might try turning it on and with an air hose pressurize the tank a couple of pounds. Once you get fuel into the pump it ought to work, unti you run out of fuel again!

You can place it in the tank by modifying the gas guage and installing a tube in a new plate and moving the guage over a little. A Walbro pump will drop right through the whole. In tank pumps are way better. Then just use the existing line as your return. Worked great for me. MIKE

Thanks Charile. That looks like the solution for me.
