I have read a ton of info on this build and cannot nail down the details. I am sure you guys have seen this quite a bit so I am hoping you can point me in the right direction.



I got a 56 F100 292 Yblock and I want to replace the current 3 speed with a more modern 3 speed from a 80's pickup. I have the yblock bellhousing from the 3 speed and all accessories.



I have read you need to cut up to 3/8" off this input shaft on this transmission to get it to work with the y block bellhousing but besides that it should bolt right together?



Questions:



Is the above thoughts accurate?

What bearing, clutch pressure plate do I use with this? I have all the stuff from the yblock and it is virtually brand new.

Anything I a missing?



Any links, builds or thought would be amazing. I am posting a pic of the transmission I am using.

I haven't tried this myself, but it looks to me like you will need some sort of plate adapter, perhaps the thickness of the extra length of the imput shaft.

Hmmm... '80s Ford truck... all synchro 3 speed? looks like a Ford toploader type... what engine was it in back of? any numbers on the tranny case?

It looks like a model 303 all synchro to me.  They made them in truck and car versions, with differences in gearing and the input shaft and input shaft collar.

Yes I was told one thing and now studying the thing now I think it is the 303 and not really sure if this is going to work. It looks like it is a RAT transmission maybe from late 60's passenger car.

your trying to mate it to a 4 speed bell.you need 3 speed.also you shouldnt have to grind any off since a truck bell is deeper.measure.

What you have pictured is a truck 4 speed bellhousing.

Ok that is good to know. This 4 speed came from a 56 f100 does it have a creeper gear in first?



If it does what do you recommend that will bolt in either a 3 speed or a 4 speed that will not require all the adapters to get it to work. I am trying to put the yblock in a traditional 27 model t.



I think what I picked up is not going to work as it is a column shift transmission.



Any advice?
