That weird dust shield is a heat shield used on the passenger cars with single or dual exhaust to keep the heat away from the steering box. The dual exhaust ones have a dip in them to curve around the exhaust pipe and the single exhaust ones are flat in that area and larger in size.



On pickups you would either use a cross over pipe to exit exhaust from the passenger side manifold or a set of rams horns.



This heat shield is not required on a pickup. Also one of the bolt holes (the 3/8" one) is required for your clutch slave cylinder if you have a manual transmission

Don't throw it away as it is a scarce item and most cars have it missing,people are always looking for them.

I have been trying to button everything up so I can drop the motor and trans in my f100. Well on the L.H. Side or drivers side bellhousing just above the oil pump there is a weird dust sheil attached by two bolts. Is it original or even needed? Also where does the braided ground strap attach on the motor to the cab on a 1960 f100?
