July 14, Atlantic Bl. in Bixby Knolls - a nice area north of Long Beach, California was closed off for their annual

hot rod show commemorating Lions Drag strip. One of the corporate sponsors was Cosworth!

Besides too damned many c****s, this gorgeous black '56 shone in the afternoon sun.

The spotless engine compartment, soon to get Mummert heads. What wonderful craftsmanship.

Another black beauty, a '54 Mercury.

While beering up, 20,000+ horsepower was thundering outside. Among the vintage top fuelies, Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen ,Don "The Snake" Prudhomme and Shirley "Don't Call Me Cha Cha" Muldowney's monsters. All the white light in the two right hand panels are exhaust flames!
