Well Moz at least you dont have to worry about dropping small parts into the motor when you are working on it.Just catch them before they disappear skyward.

Mark - I think you have this backwards - take a screw in your fingers - with nut engaged and turn the screw clockwise. It should move the nut toward you - and inside the housing of the vacuum chamber, the nut that preloads the spring will be backing up toward the nipple as the screw turns clockwise. The instructions that come with the (adjustable) chambers usually tell you to turn the screw clockwise on your old chamber and count the turns until the nut seats at the nipple end. Then you take the 'new" chamber and preload the spring the same number of turns counter-clockwise - as a calibration. You check the calibration by operating the engine at idle (high vacuum) and deliberately watching the advance you get by turning it "on and off" with a hose attached to manifold vacuum.

When you turn it clockwise you are compressing a spring. You should feel resistance as the spring compresses. If you turn it CC it releases tension and the advance should move with little resistace when vacuum is applied.

Suggest squirt some wd-40 a couple of times and leave it for 24 hours. Not worth rushing and stripping the screw.

This is the style with the 3/32 hex key adjuster - goes in through the vacuum port. Same spot you would squirt something in to free the mechanism a bit.
Take care with the adjuster - if the hex key fits but the screw is frozen - it is easily stripped.

Just because it does not look adjustable it may still have the allen key type adjustment through the vacuum opening. It may be turned all the way clockwise which makes the tension very tight on the spring inside preventing it from moving easily.WD 40 squirted through the vacuum opening will make it easier to turn the adjuster inside.
