Bill. You are correct in that 292 cast crankshafts in general are not marked the same at the flywheel flange and many are not marked at all. The only given is the 5/16” dot on the flywheel flange being a positive identifier for the 312 cranks; but not all 312 cranks have this dot meaning no dot at all can represent either a 292 or 312. While many 292 crankshafts are identified by having no dot, a single small dot or multiple dots can also represent a 292 shaft. The 272 and 292 cast cranks are essentially indistinguishable from each other. Lorena, Texas (South of Waco)

What Gary mentions about the front counterweight offsets works also for crankshaft identification. Let us know if it proves to be otherwise. Supercharged Group: Forum Members Last Active: Last Year Posts: 1.3K, Visits: 9.2K	check the two front counter weights and see if their offset or even. If even it should be a 312, if offset then a 292 or 272. Just another way of checking. -Gary Burnette-
