I reckon our pretty damn close , guess it comes down to the fuel and your driving style. Mine comes in very early around 2300rpm with the 925D springs , in-  13, topped out at 34 mech. the vacuum pushes it over 50. I have no probs does have a little rattle on a hard roll on, plugs are fine and starts first time every time. This is with the Pertronix 2 setup.

Im going to try the lightning 3 see if there is any diff' with its Multi Spark.

Well settled for now gonna drive her a bit. Seems to like 17 intial, 37 mech advance in by 2500, and vacuum adv adds 10 degrees. And it seems to like the Holley 2 barrel better then the Autolite one. Cruising at 50 has 15-16 inches of vacuum. Seems to drive well just a bit loud with the 2 chamber 2 1/2" flowmaster copies. Probably will change them out and see. Not sure what to try though. And the x-pipe turned out good.

10-15 deg idle, 36 deg / 3000rpm max without vacuum and about 50 deg max with vacuum(~60 kpa).

I think too much idle advance heats engine, but i never tested it.

That 32 max looks charged engine's advance to me.

My opinion. My pretty much stock 292 with computer controlled ignition was happy with those numbers, but never was on dyno.

Hey guys! Still pllayin with set-up of the new motor. 292+0.040 w/ mild cam, 8.8-8.9:1 comp, cam installed @106, 2-brl Holley off '57 272

So on the carb there is a rod on the float bowl that when you open the throttle shuts an external opening into the float bowl? Anyone know the purpose of this?

As for timing has a couple year old cardone rebuilt unit with pertronix and mr gasket dist spring kit 925D.

Built for the street as a torque motor and driver

Checked balancer when i built motor TDC is true.

Right now set-up with 17 initial (ported vacuum) seems to like it snappy response in neutral and starts good with 17-18in vacuum. Can turn up to 20 initial and idle gets even smoother?

Limited internally for 38 mech advance. My search on here shows people saying anywhere from 32-38. Thats a big range. For a street driver any more on this? Not looking for peak hp more so mileage and roll on. Not sure on how the curve rpm is. Need another tach to watch under hood i guess.

Also my vacuum advance was peaking timing at like 60. Seemed like too much. I tapped dist. body to put screw in to limit plate swing. What should i be looking to limit it to? With a mity-vac all vacuum advance in about 10in vacuum.

I am a japanese motorcycle mech so timing is non-adj for us.

Thanks

Scott
