that's a problem as well, the lights won't dim when I turn the knob.

I'm aware the ignition doesn't have to be on to turn the lights on, don't know why I stated it that way, was late when I posted and frustrated too.

TMC is correct. When I rewired the bird to 12 volts, I used new 6 volt switches. In theory, they would carry twice the amperage of 12 volts units. My worry was the resistor to dim the dash lights, but it turned out to not be a problem. They dim fine. So some thing else is wired wrong, or has failed.

The instrument lights should not have anything to do with the ignition switch. The light circuit is separate from the ignition switch and should come on with the ignition switch in the off position. If your instrument lights are on with the light switch in the off position than you either have a wire crossed or a short.

I am using all the original switches in my 55 with 12 volts and no problems so far.

Butchering up everything I can get my hands on in Dayton Ohio

I converted my 55 fairlane from 6volt to 12 volt, after a couple of weeks my instrument lights started burning even with the ignition turned off.

I've traced all the wires and I didn't find anything that would indicate the problem so I had another light switch and changed it out and the problems remains. Also both switches are 6 volt.



Has anyone else had this problem? Also I can remove the blue and white wire on the terminal that also has yellow wires and a black wire and cut the power to the lights and I haven't went beyond that yet, it got late on me.
