A question for the Aussie members.

Where can I get seatbelts for my Customline?

Also what is the best method of attaching them at the B pillar?

On the outside, the B pillar is very narrow and there does not look to be enough clearance between the front and back doors to drill and fit a bolt.

All help appreciated

You can buy seat belts much cheaper out of the US.

This s a good link for how to fit the belts the three point belts.

http://julianos.com/how2_3point56ford.html

They also sell a variety of belts. I usually just fit lap belts cause I don't think the b pillars are strong enough.

I bought Klippan lap belts about 10 years from Rare Spares and they were about $100 each from memory. I recently bought a set of 5 lap belts off eBay and I think landed in Oz they were about $250.

I believe Juliaos carry the whole soothing match. Their brackets for bolting to the floor are a great idea. Check out their online catalogue.

Rick,

Is there a problem with fitting USA seatbelts when getting Aus rego as they do not have the Aus standard label attached?

I actually got the Simpson lap belts with included eye bolts for clip in ease. I secured my kids seats and they are certainly locked down. Not sure about the Aussie laws, US the seatbelts must be at least as manufacturered. Since seatbelts were not required until the late 60s it would be "legal" to not have anything. I live a few miles from Jegs, but they were about $70 each. My next door neighbor is a cop and inspected the rig and although not inspected by the national transportation safety board his words were no cop in "his right mind would doubt the SFI rating over OEM seatbelts.

Snowcone,

I had seatbelt installed in my mainline in the weeks after I bought it. I went to a place that specialized in baby seat installation that also did seatbelts. I got three inertia reel belts across the front

I had them installed for three reasons. safety; obviously for my then wife and stepdaughter, time; I took the car on a holiday trip just two weeks after buying it, expertise in fitment; to get the right points and ergonomics right.

I would guess that along with brake improvements and chassis changes that safety modifications like seat belts would need to be compliant with standards. Check with the RTA or inspector. Personally I can't see the point of trying to save on safety related items.

I think seat belts were part of the Lifeguard pack introduced in 56. So look at a 56 or later car for comparison.

cheers

Warren
