my brother bought a 56 customline victoria pretty cheap.the young kid that had it before had big plans to put a big scrub engine in it ... well ,you know the story the moron stripped it and sold the engine, trans ..etc. he cut the frame off at the firewall.my brother any comments will be wants to put it back to a real car and not the morphadite this guy had in mind.I told him any 55 or 56 frame would work preferably a 56 as there are a few differences in brakes. I know the crown and ragtop have the stronger x frame but the rest are the same right? he's gotten a lot of free advice from a lot of know it alls and I just want to make sure of my facts.by the way, he talked about putting in a 390 but i've convinced him he would be way happier with a yblock. any comments would be appreciated.

sedan and hardtop frames are the same but the hardtop has an extra mount under door.if you dont have it on a hardtop you cant do anything with the door.its hard enough to adjust these doors as they are.if you have a sedan frame all you need do is to put these mounts on the frame if you have a hardtop.

Most 56 Victoria's and Crowns have a heavier gauged frame than a sedan. The outer "C" of the frame is 2 gauges thicker than a sedan. The inner "C" of the 56 frame is the same as a sedan.

The early 55 Crowns and Victoria's used a strip of metal under the frame like a sleigh shoe for reinforcement.

I have seen this sleigh shoe on a few 56's also. It seems that the 55 style frame was still used on some cars. I don't know if this was specific to one plant or not.

If your frame does not have this sleigh shoe you have the thicker gauged frame.
