Hi all. Being my first post, thanks in advance for any help.
So here it goes. Purchased a fully rebuilt 1955 292 with an edelbrock intake and two 1404 edellbrock carbs. Test drove it in the guys car before he pulled it and it ran great. He had receipts for the machine shop that did all the work. Installed it in the place of my blown motor. Shortly thereafter, my fuel tank went and crap got into everything. I have since replaced all lines, tank, sending unit, pump, filters and cleaned the carbs. I am running a mechanical fuel pump and the filter is between the pump and carbs. I have been running into an intermittent issue where under highway speed the car starts breaking up like its running out of gas. I have installed a fuel pressure gauge and verified at times the pressure is great (app 5psi) and if I pull over and check when the problem is happening the pressure is way low around 1 psi. I pulled the dipstick yesterday and found that the oil smells way too much like gas for my liking. I am starting to think that all the crap from the gas tank is causing issues with one or both carbs (i.e damaged the needle or seat) which is resulting in my poor fuel pressure bc the carb(s) are leaking internally.... The linkage for the carbs and all adjustments have not been touched since the motor was running "properly" in the previous owners car. Any ideas from anyone or even a contact in the southeastern pa area that is good with dual carb setups and can help my would be GREATLY appreciated.
thanks everyone
