Hi, Recently purchased a Generator rebuild kit and found that the brushes are slightly different size to those in the Generator I pulled down? Looking at Mac's Auto's and Dennis Carpenters catalogs and found there are two sizes Part No.C1AZ-10069A which are .93" wide x .90" high x .29" thick (which come in the kit) then there are Part No. 01A-10069 which are 1" wide x .86 high x .29" thick both are listed for 40-59 & 49-64 models respectively.

My 56 Mercury manual has the later 1" wide listed Part No FAA-10069A, question is will it make a difference if I were to use the .93" Wide brushes that came with the kit or should I just order the correct ones as per the Factory manual?

save yourself drama down the road. The correct brushes will give you better service life and will not wear unevenly due to fitting the brushholder tighter. theoretically the larger brush should be able to carry a higher charge rate due to the extra surface area. They may also not wear the commutator or themselves out as quick due to the larger contact area.

Thanks Rick, sounds like its the way to go. I was leaning that way, I wasn't quite sure so I thought I would ask.
