hi Charlie, they changed the boosters, they added cross bars on the 1037 carbs. I wonder if they did it for the automatic, mabey it gave a better signal for low torque. my friends factory e- code 57 bird has two 1037 carbs. and it had a isky cam. we think it was raced back in the day, still has the traction bars on it.

To add to Charlie"s information, the LIST numbers stamped on the carbs baseplates are 1434 for the AB carb and 1437 for the AA carb.

1957 Ford 'E' code set-ups used two Holley 4000 carburetors.

While similar in appearance to the 1956 Ford and Mercury single quad application Holley 4000 carburetors, there are numerous external and internal differences in the 'E' application carbs.

The Ford stamping on the aluminum carburetor bases for the '57 'E' carbs was

ECJ 9510-AA
ECJ 9510-AB

One of each of the above were used on 'E' code automatic transmission applications.

Standard transmission and overdrive equipped 'E' code vehicles were equipped from the factory with two of the ECJ 9510-AB carburetors.

My understanding is that the only difference between the AA and the AB series of carburetors was an anti-stall dashpot on the AA units.

Hope this helps.

Back in the day, 1963 or so, I ran 2 WCFB's on a '57 Ford Custom 300. They worked fine. I could tear them apart & put them back together. I took the chokes out of them. After a period of time I put a single AFB off of a '62 Pontiac on the original B manifold & it ran faster times with that at Atco Dragway in NJ.

Oldmics....The complete unit is a Purolator AF-210. The base fits a 7-1/8" carb top. The filter has a built in metal top that is plated. It has 2 hold downs. one on the top of the filter and the second one on the top of the red cover.  I did not use the filter I install one from a Dodge 6.........My pictures are too big to send here. I e-mail them to you if you would like

Tom & Gentlemen

Seems I have opened a can of worms once I start to investigate all of the information that I have.

What I mean is that there appears to have been several runs of this decal over the years.

I"ll start with the original and then move on to the discrepency points. The various production runs have different issues when compared to the original decal.

Original decal points of consideration for comparison purposes to repros would be

Orange backround with a decal size of 6" X 2 1/2 ".

On the decal where the printing states    WHEN DIRTY REPLACE REFILL WITH PUROLATOR TYPE AF-

Style of font on the "A" where the printing states   AIR FILTER

_______________________________________________________________________________

Differences would be

Current unit on eBay has RED backround color-should be ORANGE

While the decal on eBay is size correct I have a repro that is orange backround in color BUT is sized smaller at 5 13/16 X 2 5/16

On the original decal the printing states    WHEN DIRTY REPLACE REFILL WITH PUROLATOR TYPE AF-

On the eBay offering it is printed as TYPE AF-1    Should not have the "1",should be blank after AF-

The font differences of the letter "A" in the word AIR is difficult to explain. The eBay unit is correct with two different widths of the "A" legs in the word AIR .

Again I have two repros where both of the "A" legs are the same thickness.

The "A" letter in the word AIR are two different widths.

I went to the Osborne site to see his offering.Unfortunatly it does not show a picture of his decals.

So I have yet to see the perfect reproduction decal.

Old Mic, As I have told you before I have opened two of the 56 NASCAR boxes, one of the new aircleaners was shipped to Jim Osborn reproductions in Ga. And was pro. photoed and reproduced. This was in about 1973 or 74. That is the same decal that is being sold. Just wondered what was different with yours. Tom
