Gekko13 has it right for the pickup oil pan capacity.  The HD truck engine (big trucks) have a deeper pan than the pickups and the light trucks and require even more oil.

If you have an old spin on filter I have used the rubber seal from one of them to reseal the adapter to the block. It seems, in my case, that the filter and the adapter had the same seal.

On the dipstick, I wanted a chrome one so I found one for a mopar that was long enough and fit the top of the tube correctly. Changed the oil and filter, added 6 quarts, started the engine to circulate the oil. I then shut it off and checked the oil level on the dipstick. It was reading above the mopar mark so I scribed a line at that point. Works for me! Chuck

While there are several different size canisters and spin-ons, the most common Y-block passenger car types are approximately equal volume.  No worries.

Yeah dip stick is on the side i thought about the cap piece but it has minimal play but i will check again . So 5 quarts oil, 6 quarts with filter change ? Does it differ between canister or spin on filter ?

Is the little cap that stops the dipstick from going all the way down in the correct position? Maybe that is why it goes down far enough to hit the pan.



I'm assuming you have the dipstick that is on the side of the engine?

you dont list in your avatar where you are from. If you are from a country with metric measurements, the capacity is 5 litres. Fill the crankcase to whatever volume measurement you use. redip the oil after first running the engine. mark the dipstick at the new level. you probably have a shortened dipstick tube for whatever reason. You could fit a new tube to overcome this.

6 quarts with filter change.

Whats the right oil cap of 57f100 with 272? The stick says full at little over 2 qaurts and i know thats way off it also hits bottom of pan . I checked the serial # it matched the 272 but obviously wrong. Also spin on oil adapter seal leaks , and i have a canister filter replacement with like 6 seals does one of those match a fit for the adapter?
