Hi All,

I just got a P&G valve gapper model 111 pretty cheap, everything appears to be in working order. However, I cannot find any information on it. I've read all of the previous posts and every link that a google search will bring up.

This link http://www.ctci.org/gilsgarage/ValveGapperInstructions.php talks about the model 111, but I cannot see the barrel numbers where he mentions them on mine. Maybe because it is series 2? I'm not sure...

This is a picture of what the one I have looks like:

Anyone know if this is right for Y-Blocks, if not, what it is for, or have any old instructions laying around? I'm also trying to figure out if I have all of the pieces.

Thank you,

-Johnny

Still haven't found a good set of instructions for the model 111, but here is a great link to a very complete pdf of the model 300 instructions if any one needs or wants them, courtesy of Rocket Scientist Chris from the HAMB.BigGrin

There is a good description of the P&G valve gapper at the CTCI (Classic Thunderbird Club International) web site. Look under Gil`s Garage section for it. Pete

The 111 valve gapper is made up of two concentric tubes. The outer one will have "111" marked on it:

The inner tube will be marked near the top on the outside:

The "1B" inner tube is the one to use on a Y-block.

The point of this tool is that the valves can be set accurately with the engine idling. It also uses change in distance from the keeper to rocker to measure valve lash, so wear on the rocker doesn't matter.

The ctci article describes stopping the engine between adjusting each valve, but I've heard that this isn't necessary. I think the spring on the tool can be compressed, and the tool inserted between keeper and rocker with one hand while the engine is running. Releasing the spring should lock the tool in place. That's seems to be what the handle and top button are set up for. I haven't used mine yet, but if I can actually do this it would clearly save time setting the valves. The value of increased accuracy over using a feeler gauge is questionable.

I also use an old snap-on V-21 valve setting tool so I don't have to juggle a box end and a screwdriver. This should be particularly useful when the engine is running.

Thank you so much for posting those pics, and for the info! Mine looks the same but is most likely for a different motor, it has a - F after the model 111. Also, there are no markings at all on the inner barrel where that 1b is supposed to be; so I'm not sure what motor it is for. I was hoping the F meant FordBigGrin

I've started a thread on the HAMB too, hopefully someone will be able to tell me what motor it is for.

I live in Portland. I might swing by the addresses on the instructions or talk to some local shops that have been around a while to see what they can tell me or if there is anything laying around like old paper work or instructions. Probably not there anymore, but the treasure hunt will be fun, right?Wink
