Hi all: I am new to the forum, but I live in Mexico, so I can add a bit to the topic.

Ford has had an assembly plant down here almost forever, at least since the late 20's. I have a 1934 V8 truck that was assembled at that plant... I have a letter from Ford from the 70's (some prior owner requested it for some paperwork) stating it was assembled in december 6 1934 at their Mexico city plant... curiously still a 1934 model, even though the late '34 date.

I recently bought two 1954 Mercurys, a Sun Valley and a Monterey hardtop. Both of them were assembled here, as they have the MEX on their VIN numbers. By the way, none of them show a plate other than the one with the VIN... while regular US cars show a plate that shows the color, transmission, etc.

So, answering to the first post in this topic, yes, the 1955 Ford Skyliner was surely assembled here, with most components probably comming from the US. I have never seen one in the Street, but only 1954 models, both Ford and Mercury, but if '54 Sun Valleys and Skyliners were assembled here, I see no reason why 1955 or 56 models could have also been assembled.

This is a little off topic also. Welcome Lon! I recently looked at a 56 Club Sedan that had a metal plate attached to the passenger side door frame that said something about it being a Mexican car( in Spanish). The car showed cracks in the B pillar where the smaller section in front of the side windows joined the heavier portion where the door latch is located.
I wondered if this is common or just caused by a life on poorly maintained roads.
Has anyone else seen these cracks on other 52-56 2 door sedans?

Lon. That's good to know. For the majority of forum users that's been the case. For whatever reason, there is a small number of registered users that are unable to log in simply by doing a refresh of the screen. There's a nuance in the system that simply has to be found and worked out.

Chuck, remember to take info from Wikipedia with a grain of salt. Although there is a lot of good info on Wiki almost anyone can log on and change or add info. Correct or incorrect. See the EDIT tab at the top of the page?

For that reason my Grandson's teachers will not allow them to use Wikipedia for a Reference in Reports, Research and Study Papers. Unfortunate because it can be a great tool but not all info is accurate.

Not saying the link that you gave has wrong info, just pointing out that if using wikipedia it is a good idea to verify that info from another source.

And back on topic. There were 1965/66 Shelby Mustangs with Mexican VIN assembled in Mexico. Pete
