IIRC, those engines had the timing pointer that had the degreed increments on the pointer, not the pulley. That mark on the pulley is for TDC. Been a while since I have run across that style timing pointer. I believe that some early 56 F series trucks had that same setup.

John checked the crank pulley out and it has the small notch in the back pulley groove, but the pointer is missing and the engine did come out of a 55 Ford cab over truck Thanks Carl

Carl, sounds like a 55 truck engine. They originally had a very long pointer that reaches the back of the rear pulley. There should be a small notch in the rear pulley. I don't know if it is TDC or some specific timing mark.
