While doing some recent work on our '57 wagon w/312 and Pertronix ignition I discovered that my distributer cap was full of fine brass dust. Upon closer inspection I discovered that the rotor was actually spot facing the inside of the cap (not the posts as if the rotor was too long, but the underside of the cap). The dust was allowing the spark to hop all over inside the cap. Quite a show! I put a spot of grease on the end of the distributer shaft and seated the rotor. Sure enough no grease inside the bottom of the rotor. It seems that the ring, supplied with the Pertonix, that goes over the distributer shaft doesn't let the rotor bottom out. To eliminate the possibility of an off sized rotor I bought a new rotor with the same results. The solution is easy, remove enough material from the bottom of the rotor until it fully seats (I used a coarse file). Jeff
