Sadly I have to use the stock heads from it, but I went slightly oversized on the valves. They are stock sizes for a 351W the 1.740 and 1.540 valves, and the overall length should work good with it. This is the 239 with the same cam size as the 272 and other Y blocks, so I'm guessing the later block.

I actually found another piston that the compression height is just about perfect, but I would have to put the locking grooves into them to work with the rods, and I'd have to hone the small end of the rod out for the pin size. That particular piston would only bring the cubic inches to 274.5, but would allow me to have a thicker cylinder wall.

It would be a lot of work to do it, but might just be worth it. It's going into a 1954 Truck that will see not quite daily use, but he wanted it to have a bit more torque than the 239 had. I know I should have talked him into doing a 292 up, but this will have a bit of the it's different going for it.

I'm guessing you know you'll need to use 272 pistons with that and cut back the skirt.

Come on Frank give Dennis a break. Most of us are at the age where we are more likely to have leaky plumbing than the car. Chuck

Y's guys rule!

What heads are you going to use? Is it an early or late 239?

Thanks for the reply, it's actually going to come out at approx. 283 cubic inches as I'm putting a 312 crank and rods into it.
