I also have a 63 Jag Mk2 with a Dana 44 so I bought a rear end from a 1959 Ford F150 because it had a Dana 44 that had a Trac Lock posi in it. I pulled the ring and pinion and carrier with the Trac Lock out and ( stupidly) junked the axles, brakes 10 inchx21/2 inch drums and backing plates. OH WELL.
Why Ford used a Dana in 59 when the 9 inch had been made since 57 is a mystery to me, lack of supply, using up old inventory, who knows?
Just thought I would throw this out there for general information so next time your looking at old parts keep this in mind. Pete

Ford did not make the 9 inch until 1959 and then only in trucks, it was first used in cars in 1961 but only on the HiPo 390. In 1962 the 9 inch became standard in all Ford fullsize cars. 1957 thru 1961 Ford fullsize cars used a 8 3/4 rear, however later there was a kit offered that alowed you to mount the 9 inch ring and pinion on a 8 3/4 carrier.

Chuck, maybe you have a '59 that came out in '57. That would make it newer and worth more. lol

Maybe it's a technicality? Weren't 8 3/4 gears installed in essentially the same housing? So maybe, true that the 9" wasn't made until '59, but the rear end that 99% of people will call the 9" began in '57. It's semantics?
