Does anyone know where I can find a rebuild kit for these things?

just thinking about fixing the wiper pisses me off.
I had bough a newport engineering electric wiper kit to swap out the vacuum unit, I had either misplace or threw out the good working vacuum unit, so I bought a use one from ebay, I want to go thru it before i put it in.

this was few years ago, the newport unit work great for 30 minutes, then it would slow down and stop working, I sent it back to those clowns for warranty repair, they sent it back saying they tested the motor and found no problem(i am pretty sure they tested it with no load to the motor) , re-installed in my car 30minutes into the drive the motor shorted out completely, poping fueses. this is some expensive wiper motors that only work for 1 hour total. not to mention I had to go without wipers in a downpour.

if you notice the motor is painfully undersized for the job, even my tiny toyota mr2 have a motor 4 times the size for the wiper.

I also could not find any NOS or rebuild electric motor for the 1961 Fairlane 500, I could convert it myself then. I acutally bought a reman unit but the mounting is not correct for the car and will not work.

Check Hemmings. There are vendors there that repair vacuum wiper motors, maybe they will send you parts.

Really surprised about the electrics - I have three cars with their wiper conversions and all work very well.

I had the Trico Vacuum wiper motor in my '56 Mercury pickup rebuilt by Rowland's Antique Auto Services in Zillah Wa. (near Yakima). Cost $57.50 plus shipping in 2010. Works well, or just like a new vacuum wiper. lol.

I seem to recall that these wiper rebuilders have bought up all of the parts and are reluctant to provide parts.

I just checked the internet and Rowlands doesn't have a web site. Here is the contact info:

A lot of times the pump internals dry out and lose the sealing ability I soak them in marvel mystery oil, atf, or even brake fluid ( don't like this one ) This swells up the seal inside. Drain it and give it a test. Also check all rods for slop. You need to make sure they swing freely.

Check out this link on repairing vacuum wiper motors. It worked for me. It was pretty straight forward and inexpensive (the good part!)

Got it apart and cleaned up, some pitting from where the blade sat too long in 1 spot, cleaned it up with some steel wool, also the casting quality is quite poor, divot and raised spot on where the blade wipes.

Also, I found a tool in my tool box that work perfectly for those temper proof screws, the bigger Schrader valve core tool for AC system works perfectly.

i am waiting for gaskets now.\

also this seem like the right stuff for a vacuum motor.

HoLun, Is the wiper blade leather or rubber?

seems to be leather, still somewhat pliable, i soak them in atf for now to see if they soften up more.
