Try NAPA, Advanced Auto or any other chain. Otherwise, any old Fords parts suppliers should have one.

Just to be forwarned, when I last spoke to Vernn Schumann he mentioned the water pumps for Y blocks had dried up, His supplier was Cardone who he said does 90% of the waterpump rebuilding. I called my buddies at NAPA after and they said they had another supplier but their listing was that they had none around. So those of us that have piles of them around that need rebuilding better hang on to them, its probably to the point where you will need to return a core when you buy one if you can find one. I dont think rebuilding is all that easy because they have a special process to get the impeller dialed in so there is no wobble in it.

The problem is that people have been buying rebuilt and NOT returning the old core for rebuild so the supply has dried up. Anyone with cores should sell them to CARDONE or another rebuilder. I called CARDONE about having a cast number correct core rebuilt and they said sure but they will not quarantee anything especially if it gets lost!!!! What kind of a deal is that?

Reading about the shortage (or upcoming shortage) of water pumps, I went by my local Napa today to check with them. They say they have plenty in the warehouse. I went ahead and ordered one for my T-bird for when I may need it. I'm in Puget Sound area of Washington, but would imagine Napa stores elsewhere would be able to get them too.

Mac's in NY has them on sale right now for $65 new, regularly $85. You don't need a core.

The Pureists would prefer an American Mfg. casting numbered rebuilt over the China reproduction, so I hope that people turn cores in even if to NAPA and not CARDONE.

When I worked at NAPA several years ago, their rebuilt components came in Cardone boxes. I don't know who their supplier is now.

The purist should use due diligence to determine if his is in fact original and then spend a little more and have his rebuilt by someone who will guarantee that his core is returned, to ensure that the right one is used. A simple exchange for a rebuilt pump may not get the "right" one. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to get a rebuilt Chinese pump in exchange.

I agree due delligence is important because it should be in everything, I have a correct core as my spare pump (The one on the car is correct) and I have found a local machinist that rebuilds pumps if the customer will supply the repair kit. I have been checking sources for the correct kit (1957) as the later "y" pumps take a different kit and those can be found.
