Hey charlie thanks for the info. The T-5 is the main trans I have been looking at, It is an easy one to get. Seems like some other info I got was off. Was told the car bell could be used with a T-5. BTW, How many different bells are there? I was under the impression that there was just a Truck bell and a car bell. Sounds like there are 2 truck bells or is the truck 3 speed bell the same as the 4 speed granny low.

Well, decide what you want to do. The car or truck 3 speed bell will not allow you to mount an automatic od and you will need an adapter. But in my opinion, the truck 3 speed bell is better for a T5 manual overdrive because no adapter is required, only a modified bellhousing.

I'm building a 1950 truck rat rod. So it is going to be on a custom frame. I need the Car bellhousing so I do not have to be stuck with 4 speed that came with motor. I want to put an old automatic or manual with over drive. The other option seems to be buying a $300 adapter.

The truck bell housings have the rear motor mounts on them and they are 1" deeper. As a general rule truck bell housings can not be used in Pass cars or T birds. Pass cars do not have the ears for the rear motor mount on them thus they can not be used easily in trucks without adding some new kind of motor mounts. A truck expert could comment on whether a Hydraulic clutch cylinder is part of all bell housings or just some of them but I believe this is a difference also.

That is a good question as I merely took it that he found a truck 292 thast he wishes to put in a car which is just what a friend in Arkansas just did.

Are you planning to use it in a truck?

Thanks for the quick reply! Found one out of state that someone is getting rid of and its at a good price. It opens up so many more options for a different trans other than the 4 speed granny low that I got with the engine.

I do not know where to find this information. So here goes. Will a car bellhousing from a 55-56 Fairlane fit a 292 y from a 64 2 ton truck? Bell Housing code is # AE6394D. The numbers that I have got off the block are COAE 9425-F and 25 ECC or ECG. Thanks for any help you can give me.
