Chuck: Unfortunatley I don't know what length the original oil pump mounting bolts were, however, a cast iron gear pumps blind mounting hole is about 15/16" deep. The short side hole on a geroter style pump bottoms out (& is visible) against the gear housing,at approx. 11/16." Someone else on here may be able to shine a light on whether or not different length bolts for the two styles of pumps were used originally..

Ted: the oil pump info tag apparently came from Vulcan Automotive, a Ford authorized rebuilder, that used to operate in British Columbia. It was in with an old stock rebuilt geroter pump I bought some time back..

Paul. Kudos to that particular oil pump manufacturer for including that piece of information with the oil pump. Undoubtedly it was the result of returned oil pumps that were improperly installed. And when a new “How To” book on Y’s is published, this is the kind of tidbit information that should also be included.

Thought the info below is worth making a note off: Ran across a yellow "tag' attached to some replacement oil pumps. Considering that from time to time the subjects of oil pump leaks & broken drive rods has come up here & in Y-Blk magazine, here's what the tag says; 1) Installing the pump grommet & pickup tube.- Position the grommet on the pick up pipe & insert the pipe, jamb nut & grommet into the pump as a unit. Installing the grommet into the pump first is not recommended, as installing the pipe later may tear off a piece of the rubber & jamb it into the pump, which can cause the pump to seize. resulting in drive rod failure. 2) On aluminum Gerotor pumps.- The shortside installation bolt must not exceed 1-1/4" in length. If it does, it will jamb into the housing under the bolt, causing the rotor to seize & again break the drive rod...
