Has anyone replaced their Y-block with one of the engine set ups?
If you have what all is involved besides the initial cost of the engine & transmission such as rear end, radiator etc.?

My 55 presently has a 351-W/C-4 and I am getting all the parts to put a Y block back in,I figured since a 351 is bigger then the 272 it would have more torque but I was wrong and a 302 would be worse. You can get a 302 to bolt in with certain mounts but there is other stuff that will need to be done and if you have a tired motor look for someone doing just what you were thinking and get a running motor to drop in,if I had to do it all over again I would have rebuilt the original 272 and adapted a modern trans to it,I was used to driving mid 50s Olds with hydromatics which make the Ford O matic seem like a slug.

Butchering up everything I can get my hands on in Dayton Ohio

You might also consider what you'll do to the value of the car. Hint; it won't go up!

Well that's my thought with the fom because my 272 has been rebuilt and bored to 292 specs and the transmission is too sluggish for me,

What other type of transmission is compatible with with the 272?

Since you were asking about removing an engine in another thread, I respectfully assume that you cannot pull off an engine swap on your own and will need to pay someone. That will be very expensive.

In trucks, a 302 is a big step backwards, unless you get an 80s roller cammed, fuel injected 5.0. You get a decrease in mileage and power. I can't imagine that it is much different with a car. You can put the money you were going to use for the engine swap toward a transmission adapter and any number of newer transmissions that are not as sluggish - and this will probably save you money over a completely different engine and trans swap. Don't ask me which one, though. Maybe the c4?? I'm a manual transmission guy until my knee or arm quits working and hopefully that will be quite some time.

you can use a Cruise-o-matic or with some work an FMX will fit with minimal problems.
