Ive just got a 55 ford customline and i need to rebuild the 272.I rebuilt the 390 fe in my galaxie but never a Y block.Can anyone give me info as to what to watch out for .Any Idiosyncrasies I know they had top oiling problems.Any good y block machinists in the nj-pa area .Thanks

Here’s the link to the assembly errors page on John Mummert’s website. John’s list has several nuances that are easily overlooked if one is not familiar with these particular engines. Add to the list the length of the bolts holding the oil pump to the engine as being too long a bolt can damage some of the various oil pumps. http://www.ford-y-block.com/assemblyerrors.htm

272 rebuild the aluminum jerotor oil pumps can be damaged with to long a bolt.another issue is head bolts,ones for dowel holes ar longer than non dowel,at least on early 272s
