HeheThis is a good one ! The ignition problem is solved but there was nothing wrong with the ignition or the radio ! While going through all the wiring under the dash for the 10th time I found a small toggle switch hiding near the cigarette lighter. Not sure what it was for I went through every single wire and switch in the car to get it to do something when I flipped it. While fixing a loose wire on the hidden radio I had installed, that toggle was still driving me nuts. To make a long story short.....I finally thought that maybe the toggle I found was a hidden switch and used for safety/theft and cut off the ignition. It did and the last owner never knew it was there.....w00t

Thanks for all your help.

Thanks for all the info. I'll start from the switch and work my way through.

Thanks again

Does it turn over but not start or just nothing at all.If it turns over but no start its not the Neutral switch. That only controls power to the solenoid to engage the starter.

Assuming the car is an automatic, you might try starting it with the transmission selector in neutral. If it still doesn't turnover, you might try temporarily bypassing the Park/Neutral safety switch and see if that gets you back to where the engine turns over using with the ignition switch.

I have a 1957 ford fairlane 500. Not sure whats going on but the car wont start with the key turned so I jumped the relay/selonoied and she fires right up with the key on. Is there a inline fuse for the ignition switch ? I also noticed tne radio is out the same time this happend. Would anyone have any ideas ? I would also like to find a wiring diagram for this car.

Thanks

Classic Car Wiring has nice color coded and laminated wiring diagrams for our 'Vintage Fords'.

No, no fuse for the ignition switch. Could be BO switch or loose wires as Bill suggested. Radio going dead at same time is kind of strange, two different circuits.

Have you checked if current is at the small wire going to solenoid from the ign switch, my thought is perhaps the wires on back of switch could be loose or switch is faulty. need to check things 1st.
