Per John Mummert's block casting number web page, ALL ECZ 6015-C blocks were of the '57 production year.
My recollection is that the spin-on oil filters were a mid '57 model year production change for Ford. I can't tell you where I read it, but I believe the change commenced in January of '57.
You're dealing with a 56 year old engine, Smokey. It's entirely possible that somewhere along the line someone swapped some parts. -In your case, basically the top end of the engine. Historically, as vehicles get older it's always been very common to swap used parts rather than rebuild the ones the vehicle came with. There's always been a cost differential that has encouraged the practice. Likely being an early '57 engine (because of the canister oil filter), perhaps the un-posted 'G' heads developed a crack. FoMoCo began posting the 'G' heads later in the '57 production year for a reason...
I don't know what style of two barrel you've got, but If it's '56 ECG style, it's possible someone swapped the intake with the heads, perhaps thinking they had to go together, that the two barrel would be more economical, or less hassle for their grocery getter. Too, if it's the '56 carburetor, perhaps the mechanic knew that the ECG carburetor would not work with the '57 distributor. -A knowledgeable mechanic of the era would have known that, a backyard mechanic probably not.
If the main caps are ECZ, you've definitely got a 312 crank. The ECZ 6015-C block, if untouched, should have the rotor style oil pump rather than a gear impeller type. The FoMoCo gear type pump does not have a flat cover, the rotor style does.
For y-block Ford followers, if you're able to put the block together with a set of ECZ-G or 5752-113 heads, the '57 style four barrel intake manifold, the '57 or later ignition distributor, and the '57 or later exhaust manifolds, you'll have more than casual interest.
The only issue becomes, 'Where are you?'. Shipping these engines is NOT CHEAP!
