The Lincolns use 1/2 inch head bolts. I torqued them down to 130 ft lb so we will see how that works

Royce. Glad it’s an easily fixed problem. Would ½” head bolts and an increase in head bolt torque be a possible fix? John’s mention of more torque on 7/16” head studs is also a possibility but I’ll typically go with a larger stud diameter when more torque is required whether it is a stud or a bolt. With the engine already together, the choices do become more limited.

Sure looked a lot worse when you pulled back into the pits RB, glad to hear a gasket was the problem.

Bad luck Royce! At least you know whats wrong and it could have been much worse. Robi is putting ridiculous torque on the 7/16" studs in his turbo engine and it doesn't seem to hurt the studs. Seems to keep head gaskets in now.Let us know what you pick for a cam in the 333 Y

I made 2 passes at Expo with my new Lincoln power plant On second pass i smelled oil, and at the turnout noticed oil smoke billowing from #6 zoomie tube.. A check of the cylinder in the pits revealed lots of oil in the cylinder.. Upon pulling the head it was obvious what caused the problem. Upon replacing the gasket I used the Mummert trick of removing the section of the gasket that covers the pushrod chamber in hopes to get a better clamp load.. I also gave the ARP studs an extra dose of torque till they were screaming for mercy We shall see if it holds.. Lincolns are notorious for blowing gaskets
