The long edge lays along the top surface parallel to the inner door and the shorter piece makes a right angle bend just under the hole on the top edge of the door. It forms an "L" to direct the water into hole and then to the inside of the door. The raised edge faces to the interior of the car.

Got the weatherstrip today. It's sort of L-shaped, with one part of the L very long in relation to the short short other side.
Which way does it go on the door? I'm guessing the long part of the L goes flat on the top of the door and the short part of the L curls down abutting the inner door panel. Can someone confirm this is right or set me straight if not?
Thanks, Meandean

2nd on the 3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive. You may want to get the 3M Adhesive Remover also to prep the weatherstrip path and for cleanup afterwards.

3M or other namebrand rubber weatherstripping contact cement is fine. You are best to apply sparingly to both surfaces-the body and weatherstrip.Follow instructions on the package.

I found them on Concours parts catalog and since I needed tail light lenses and screws (my '55 came with '56 lenses - who knows why??) so I just ordered them all. Should be here in a couple days.
What is recommended for adhesive? I asked the guy at Concours if they sold a recommended adhesive for them and he didn't have one.

You're right Mark, I should have read the post fuller. The part number needed is B5A-7020570-PR, called Inner Dog Leg Weatherstripping for Door in Dennis Carpenters catalogue and is a princely $10 a pair. It directs water into the hole on the top of of the inner door in that area.

I believe what you are asking about is the "Hockey Stick" rubber seal on the top of the door under the windshield cutout? You can purchase just those as a set from Tee-Bird.com.About $20.00 or less.Check their website at tee-bird.com.I will post the part# in the AM.

If it is just missing across the top and possibly down to the belt line you could use a generic rubber extrusion to glue in. The only bit of the seal which is unusual is under the top of the door skin front.

I see it there in the Carpenter door seal kit. Will have to see if I can just get the piece I need, not spend $100 per side for the whole door seal plus the piece I need.
Thanks for responding!

As Paul says there should be rubber all the way around the door. The diagrams from Dennis Carpenter will show you what you need.
