Interesting that you bring this problem up. My 57 Fairlane has KYB rear shocks & I noticed recently that I had trouble removing & re installing the wheel on the drivers side recently. Seems to me that I read something about this problem before, quite some time ago. Effectively, the KYB's listing for our old Fords isn't quite correct. If I recall correctly, the shock is slightly shorter than the original. In my case, I ended up removing the lower shock nut, forcing the shock up & out ot the bracket, & installling a spare curved shock washer, I had on hand, on the up side of the axle, to get a bit more clearance. However.. I also discovered that the left rear corner of the car had been worked on at some time in the past. When reassembled, a supplementry approximately 5/16" pad that fits between the body & the rear cross member had been omitted. That likely aggravated the clearance problem. I hope this information helps?
P.S.- 2nd edit; Thinking about this again. My memory isn't the best to start with, so I'll throw this caveat in. It's possible that the recollection I had was about Gabriel shocks rather than KYB, so sorry if I may have muddled this subject further...
