Newly rebuilt 292 +.030  new everything,  leaking from the bolt that holds oil pump on block( the one above ).  I didn't think that bolt goes into any where that could leak.

There is no oil passage that the bolt could intersect.  My guess is there is a piece of debris between the pump and block whereby pressurized oil could reach the bolt.  A chunk of the old gasket could do it.

recently dismant a 292 the upper bolt was 2 long and the oil pump  body stoped it frome holding the pump in place,if to long or over tight could damage pump.

If the same hardware was reused I would bet on the gasket or debris between pump and block, if they used new hardware I would bet on bolt bottoming out

Well I removed oil pump and replaced gasket and put a copper washer under the bolt that goes thru the block, and it still leaks, 3 seconds after it is started.  After it runs for 1/2 a minute I have a 5 inch puddle under car.  This 292 has 2 pipe plugs above oil pump in block and can't break them loose and paint around plugs look good, no cracks in paint, so I don't think they are leaking.  After a  2 year full restoration this is the only thing keeping me from driving it.
Any Ideas are welcome

Is this a new pump or used? someone could have overtightened the fasteners and there could be a slight bump where the steel was stretched around the threads. Remove it and use a flat stone and make sure the surfaces are flat. Also make sure your fasteners are not bottoming out. Also make sure your releif valve is working properly, how much pressure do you have when running?

This is a new pump and all bolt lengths are the same.  I will remove oil pump again and check it out.  is it possible to put the gasket on wrong?

The gasket will go on more than one way, but only one is correct.  Look at the oil transfer passages closely and make sure they are aligned in the gasket.

As well, the pump itself may have a leak and spray oil to where it looks like it leaks at the block. The pump cover plate should not be over or under torqued. The o-ring can get pinched or even twist. Is this a gerotor or spur gear pump?
