They say there is no such thing as a dumb question...well I just had to try; My Edlebrock #257 has a plugged threaded port on the top center of the manifold. To be honest, I don't know if this plug is in the water jacket or not, but I think it is. Could this be used for an electric fan sending unit location? There are new relay/sending units out there that do not require a traditional temperature sender and just use a wire lug that is bolted to the block (Painless I think makes them ) and that's what I'm leaning towards if the manifold won't work. I really don't want to mess with removing the plug in the head and installing a threaded bung to accomodate a sending unit.Thanks,Rono

Ron, I've used several units, and this was the best. Some early ones failed, including mine, and they replaced it no question , even out of warranty. The radiator probe didn't appeal to me, but slid right into the fins and worked really well, so I was forced to change my opinion.

Thanks Mike; I've heard about those probes, but that is the first I have seen. What electric fan did you use it with? Cooling Components now makes a Fan with a shroud that will fit 56 Ford passenger car radiators, but they draw 70 Amps at start up so need a heavy relay. They only use about 15 Amps when running, are very low profile and pull 2,500 cfm, but they are not cheap.

Hi       just some info...on my 257 manifold , there are two threaded holes on the top of the manifold...the one between the carbs is a vacuum port  and the second one is into the coolant area just above the thermostat housing.  Barry L

Ron, I've used several fans, and I'm out of town so I can't tell you which one that was. But, if they've got a shroud/fan combo, I'd be inclined to go that way. A good sealed shroud makes a huge difference. And you often get what you pay for. I've had a couple electric fans (cheap) that proved that to me.

This is the Aussie one I use, its the new style the probe just slips in the radiator fins under the top inlet. as you can see that little black box in it is a relay built in. Adjust away to any temp..
