Hello. I am building a 1931 Model A coupe on 32 rails with a 292 Y block and a T-5 trans. I am using a 292 out of a 63 truck and have a passenger car bell housing with a Mummert adapter to a Mustang T-5. I have it mocked up now and am seeing allot of clearance issues that are arising between the side mount motor mounts, o/e ram's horn manifolds and the oil filter. I am just weighing my options at this point. I could always run a different set of manifolds / reds type header and get more clearance but I like the ram's horns. One option I am looking at is building a Hurst type front mount, but with a passenger car bell there isn't a good way to support the added stress at the bell housing. My question is, is it necessary to have a mount at the bellhousing with a steel bell housing or will it handle the stress of the long span of the front mount and using only the rear trans mount? I have seen where allot of pepole say it can't be done with an aluminum bell but where mine is steel is it ok?

I think Mummert aluminum adapter is better quality than old cast iron, so just go for it! And something like this for front mount? Or like this?

Isn't that pretty much how the Flathead is mounted, one at the front and one at the transmission? A Flathead isn't much lighter than a Y, so I think it will work. And isn't that the way the T-bird works? It would be best to be like hollow heads first picture because the second won't do much to stabilize the engine and keep it from rocking side to side.

Here is a pic of the clearance issues. Not much room for exhaust or steering. Hollow Head that first pic is similar to what I had in mind and looks great!

FWIW, that first picture looks like the front mount on my 32. Notice the VR57 at the very top of the picture. I'm using a truck bell, and a regular mount on the TKO500. I wouldn't have any problem using a car bell, but I'd add something along the lines of the side rods used on the birds.

I have some 90* oil filter adapters that could get that out of the way for you or you could go with a remote filter assembly.

Y block Billy. I didn't know they made a 90* adapter and I am liking that idea! I had thought of using a remote oil filter but wasn't completely sold on that idea.
Lyonroad. Thank you very much for the offer but if decide to go that direction I think I will just make one. Which won't be as nice as Mike's either!

Sure, I'm sure yours will look better than mine. Incidentally I didn't make it, it came with the motor.
