Is you kit for an AOD or a C4? I didn't think there were any kits on the market for mating an AOD to a Y Block, but I'm interested in what you have.

Is there really a kit for AOD to Y block?  The answer is Yes there is the Bendtsen set up as shown below and also Gary Croan does it another way.  As far as I know Hollywood Automotive is not in business as such anymore

Howdy,

The AOD is a pretty good trans.
WIth the Baumann Engr control box the AODE can be a much better choice and you can tailor  the up & down shift points + the TC lockup points as you wish.
http://www.becontrols.com/aode.htm

I have a Bentsen adapter to bolt my 292 to an E4OD and an Baumann TCS controller to operate it.

If I was doing it again, I would get their latest US SHIFT model.

With a throttle position sensor on your carburetor, using the AODE, you completely eliminate the need for the mechanical (TV) cable that gives some so much grief!

Here's an older  picture of my 292 bolted to an E4OD.   This is the same adapter you would use with an AOD/AODE

Regards,

Rick

Here is the contact info. I've been researching this setup for a few months now. Very excited. The kit allows for a number of Ford transmissions to be installed with one kit. All good reviews.

While the Bendtsen adapter is fairly expensive, it is designed and intended for the AOD/AODE.  It  just happens to work with the E4OD........as long as it's the small block/300-6 trans housing being used.
The E4OD was available with case/bell-housings to fit the 460, 7.3L diesel, and small block V-8/300-6.........  Mine originally came out of a 1994 diesel F-450.
Since all the internals are the same, A trans repair friend of mine was able to swap to the correct case and built me up a trans to go on the back of my 292....he also got me the brake unit on the back of it.

I haven't worked on my project in the last few years much but I'm back at it again.  I hope to get the engine running with the trans on it in the next few months!

Regards,

Rick

A lot of good information and new options I didn't know were available.
Thanks,

I did the AOD conversion years ago. All has been smooth since. Although Bendtsen's is a bit pricey they provide everything you need including a high torque starter. The only problem I've had is with the starter. These small starters do not line to be left unused for long periods, like winter storage. The will seize up. This happend to me twice. A local racer that uses the same starter says he takes his out when the car is stored for long term. Of course with the cold and damp in New England that probably has something to do with it. The AODE conversion requires the addition of a computer to shift it. I didn't want to open that bucket of worms. Chuck

MoonShadow...My thought exactly.
1. Is there any cabling or mechanical arm to the trans when you use an AOD or is the shift change up and down controlled by a vacuum modulator.
2. My concern is the replacing my 56 stock air cooled trans with as little "heartache" as possible.
3. Making a rear mount is not a problem eigther.
4. Can you adapt the standard column shift arm to the side of the trans so it is close for the indicator.  Thanks

I've had an AOD in my 56 CV for a few years now, I used the Gary Croan adapter. Everything works great and I haven't had any problems with anything including the shift sensor cable. It made the car so much nicer to drive - I couldn't believe the difference. I've even drag raced the car 2 years in a row now at the West Coast Y-block shootout!
