Timmy:

If the nick is not very deep, just dress it so that it won't tear the gasket on the new cap.  The cap is vented, so the nick won't hurt.  If it is deep, repair it with JB Weld and sand it smooth.  Make sure the bore of the cylinder is good enough for the piston cup to seal, or there is no need to worry about the nick in the top.

Timmy,

I got a master cylinder for a 55 from NAPA last summer.I believe it cost $55.They stock them because Ford pickups used the same M/C up into the 70's.

Timmy,

I'll check tomorrow with my NAPA store here where I live.I get a pretty good break on parts from them.$100 sounds awfully high.

Timmy,

I checked with  my NAPA and I'm sorry to say they agreed with your price of $100.The one they sold me a year ago was a rebuilt and now they only have new, which is the reason for the increase in price.
