Is it an electric switch? I've seen temperature sensors there. May have been an electric fan switch too. Chuck

Removed the water pump, took out the large nut that holds the bracket on , mine is hollow and is threaded and had an adapter screwed into it. I will post a picture to see if anyone cant tell me the purpose of the adapter.

It is but mine has a hole where a smaller adapter screws into for some unknown reason. The adapter doesn't appear to have a purpose . Thanks for your response.

I ordered a water pump today so I took my old off, there's a 1-1/16" nut that is on the pump that also hold the power steering pump and there's a smaller fitting that screws into this 1-1/16" nut, can anyone tell me how to get the nut out and what is it's purpose? Thanks.
